The Hub Pass

A Hub Pass gives you access to our facilities, on-the-spot support from our study and subject specialists, and ongoing educational program design from our team of case managers. It’s used by students who want a full-time alternative to school or a program that can work in conjunction with part-time attendance at ‘regular school.’

We charge by the term for Hub Passes. A full-time pass costs $6500 for the school year. This pass is typically for students who are using a Hub Pass to support a full-time alternative to school.

Top 5 Reasons to use a Hub Pass at BrainBoost

  1. You want to study subjects you care about, at a pace that lets you absorb all the information and enjoy learning it!
  2. You need help planning and organizing your work.
  3. You want to earn credits, and work towards traditional accreditation, but in an unconventional way.
  4. You have a learning profile that is leading to challenges in traditional school.
  5. You want to learn deeply and broadly, so you’re ready to flourish in the ‘real world.’

For students who will use their HUB Pass 10 hours or less each week, a Hub Pass Lite is available at a cost of $4500 for the year. This is often purchased by students in ‘regular school’ who need our comprehensive support after school, or by students who have activities which keep them occupied during regular school days (e.g. high level sports or arts). Payment is required at the start of each of our three terms.

The pass includes:

  • Facilities: Use of the study space, lunch room and materials (physical and technological).
  • Study Coaching: support with planning, organization, motivation, materials, school management, communication with teachers, test administration, life management, etc.
  • Case Management: customized, update-able personalized education plan and dynamic in-the-moment support and strategizing.
  • Homework Help: support with course material, study plans, and more. Homework Help is offered Monday–Thursday 9–8, Friday 9–6, and Saturday 11–3.

The Hub Pass as an Alternative to School

With a Hub Pass, students can join our Alternative to School program - now entering its 5th year. This program allows students to achieve credit, explore their passions, and work out of The Hub: our comfortable, focused, high-tech ‘non-school.’ The Hub Each program is 100% customized to the student’s goals, learning profile, and history, ensuring that their education will always be adaptable, engaging, and relevant. Students earn credits identical to those at ‘in person’ schools by registering with one of the 55 distance learning schools across the province and work on their courses at the HUB with all of the resources and support that BrainBoost offers. Most of our programs range from $8,500-$15,000/year, depending on the specific configuration of tutoring, classes, and general help that the student requires.

In consultation with a case manager - our program designers - students and parents create a Personalized Learning Plan that details a student’s goals, strengths, and challenges while outlining some strategies to get us started. In this initial stage, we also work together to choose a set of group classes and/or one-on-one tutoring sessions that meet the student’s educational needs and fit within budgetary and other constraints.

Because we are a business rather than a school, we do not issue credits directly. Students can earn credits towards graduation or college credit by working with a variety of elementary, secondary, and college distance schools. We provide full support for these courses, helping students achieve their goals in a timely fashion as well as extending and enriching the content provided by distance schools. Students who have graduated from this program have gone on to attend universities and colleges around the world.

We adapt the Personalized Learning Plan in light of what we’re seeing from each student throughout the year. We frequently revisit the plan to adjust goals and tactics, ensuring each student’s experience is always optimized. Parents can track student attendance and progress online and contact us as needed to discuss ideas that come up at home.

Each student sets their own schedule, but most students attend 9-4. Parents can view attendance in real-time online. Attendance is essential for student success; if a student is having trouble attending regularly, we will problem solve, and, failing that, find another program that would be a better fit.

The Homework Help 10-hour Pass

We recognize that many students would like to utilize homework help as well as their tutoring but not to the extent of a full Hub Pass. The Homework Help 10-hour Pass allows for 10 hours of homework help, for the cost of $200.00. When your 10 hours expire, you can top up the pass with another 10. Unlike the Hub Pass, this is strictly for homework help and doesn’t include any additional case management, educational planning, or daily activities.

The HWH 10-hour Pass can be used at the following times:

  • Monday through Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00
  • Friday from 3:00 to 5:00
  • Saturday from 11:00 to 3:00

The hours can be used on a drop in basis but could be restricted at busy times due to numbers.
